Informal Session: Archiving, Preserving and Sharing Ethnographic Research for the Future
Organizer: Bill Donner, Kutztown University (email@example.com)
This session will consider what to do with field notes and collections as anthropologists prepare to organize their field notes for the future. We hope to bring together archivists, librarians, and ethnographers for a discussion on archiving and preserving ethnographic research and other materials. Field notes and collections (photos, recordings, tapes) may be resources for future scholars and, perhaps more importantly, heritage materials for the descendants of the people we lived with doing ethnographic research. Although a primary concern is what to do with ethnographic materials (field notes, recordings, photos), we should also consider other professional material including syllabi both from courses taken and courses taught, student evaluations, relevant correspondence, recommendations, and any other material. This informal session is an opportunity to have an open-ended conversation with shared experiences and expertise.
